This kit had been built by Nigel Burkin for his review of the product in MRM. Nigel had then handed back the product after building and reviewing it to Nigel Crow. It was then passed on to me. Upon receiving it I decided I was going to add some extra detail plus put on the new transfers now available from MSIM. This is the work in progress... ]]> Thu Apr 5 2007 Dagworth - Dark Side of the Moon http://gingespotting-models.fotopic.net/c1227654.html On the night of the 3rd March Andi Dell and myself (with Tea provided by Sheena) put Dagworth up to test the new computer controlled signallinig system and track circuits. The next morning we came downstairs to the garden to find it was raining (layout dry under tent though). alas the wind decided it was going to create havoc and tried to take off. Only quick work by Andi stopped the tent causing more damage to the layout than it did. After that the layout was hastily taken down (and the tent) by two very bedraggled modellers. Why "Dark Side of the Moon"? That night it was the lunar eclipse which provided extra distraction from putting up Dagworth. I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of being on the operating team for Clive Mortimores "Hanging Hill". Therefore I travelled up from home on Friday. The weekend was superb, amazing layouts and an excellent social occasion. A group of us were invited to come over and assist in the testing. Some people were able to make it, others alas couldn't due to other commitments. You will be able to see me working on this project on the DEMU stand over the coming months. Monday 27 February 2006: My current DEMU stand work-in-progress. I have purchased some of N-Brass Locomotive Mk1 OHLE portal kits . You will be able to see me working on this project on the DEMU stand over the coming months.

The brass fret of the half lattice leg. 15 minutes later and one completed half lattice leg. All the components (minus one leg fret) that come in the 3 portal pack of the lightweight 2 track latice portal. One cleaned up 2 track leightweight portal with forming bar. Bending the portal around the forming bar. One tight fitting portal ready for soldering. (Remove the forming bar first!) ;) Portal all soldered up and the end being slightly filed to allow it to fit into the leg. The leg cleaned up in preperation for forming and soldering. One standard leg soldered up ready for attaching to the portal. One completed 2 track lightweight lattice portal. I have not attached the 2nd leg as I intend to place it against the retaining wall on my test track. More stages to follow.....

They were at first painted Railfreight Grey & Flame Red, after a while though they were painted in a Red & Yellow variation of the livery. The containers were transported on FBA coded wagons. These wagons were converted SAA flats. After a query on the DEMU forum (www.demu.co.uk/forum) I decided to start scratchbuilding these containers. A huge thanks to Clive Mortimore for providing me with drawings he created for thee wagons. The basic components cut from Slaters 40 thou plasticard The main components glued together. The majority of ribbing added to the bodysides. The main ribbing was made from Evergreen StripStyrene (#122). .020 x .040 thou. An additional piece of palsticard made from 10 thou thickness was added to the sloped edge so as to give the correct look at the top of the ribbing with a slight roof overhang on the side shown. The other side of the container. Awaiting the doors to be added as a seperate item. The doors will be made from a base layer of 10 thou thickness plasticard with ribbing added as per the drawings/photos. The only thing that is being kept from the original is the bodyshell, with that modified in itself. Power will be provided by the Heljen Hymek motor and bogies. Mainlytrains rivet strips have been added to the grill surrounds Roof detail scratchbuilt from plasticard Window side Chassis #2 Chassis #1 with bogie towers added plus coupling and buffers placed but not fixed Lengthened Hornby 86 sideframe Lengthened Hornby 86 sideframe Bodyshell #2 with all roof detail removed Bodyshell #2 with roof hacked but no moulding lines/handrails removed Some of the scratchbuilt underframe parts Very nearly complete bodyshell ready for the paintshop Front ends pre-drilled for lights. I've used the marker lights from the Craftsman 86 kit Front of the 81. Step & lifting eye added The underside with lifting eye (incl hole) Side of body with rivit strips and plasticard used The Heljan Hymek bogies with Branchline P4 wheels added Front view in undercoat Prepped ready for the main paint work, no underframe details added at this point The completed bogies in P4 with sandpipes etc added Side view of the cab After much messing around the cab ends sprayed up. The Phoenix paints yellow went on great Rail blue in place on both bodies.
